Why I call myself a graphic communicator.
I call myself a graphic communicator because I want to emphasize that what I do is communicate ideas through the use of typography, layout, photography, and illustration. The most important thing in design is communicating the intended message of the sender (client) not making it look “pretty.”
I have found that the perception of the general public is that the graphic designers job is to make things look “pretty”. It may be what some graphic designers do but I don’t think it should be what they do. Early on in my career I was told that I should have other creative outlets outside of work. I paint and make photographs. I think my work helps my art and vice versa.
